IBM Knowledge Center – LATEST!

I just accidently discovered this and thought it worth writing down for everyone. I don’t know how long it has been this way, and I have not seen anything from IBM making a big thing about this, but I think it is VERY handy.

You are likely aware that the IBM MQ Knowledge Center has a number of versions. To pick a random page, say the MQSC command DISPLAY QUEUE:-

Knowledge Center Version Menu

The URL is almost entirely the same, except that the version number just after the text SSFKSJ_ changes. You can either edit the URL, or use the little drop down menu in Knowledge Center to do the same.

What I hadn’t been aware of until now was that there is another URL:-

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_latest/com.ibm.mq.ref.adm.doc/q086270_.html

where the version number text is the word “latest”, which appears to redirect to the latest version.

So all those times where a Stack Overflow answer or a blog post has a link to an old version of Knowledge Center, you can imagine how instead using this “latest” form of the URL would mean that it will always open the latest version of the page.

One additional thing I’ve noticed is that fairly recently the IBM Knowledge Center changed from URLs ending with .htm to URLs ending with .html. So if you’re converting an old URL to use the “latest” version, you may also have to add a letter ‘l’ on the end.
